When You Need a Building Permit:
You need a permit for most construction projects, including:
- New homes or commercial buildings
- Additions, garages, decks, porches, patios
- Remodeling that changes structure or systems
- Demolition or razing of structures
- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC (through licensed contractors)

Permit Application Checklist
- Prepare these items before submitting your application:
- Site plan or sketch showing property and proposed work
- Dimensions, square footage, and height of new structures
- Construction plans or drawings (if required)
- Parcel number and property address
- Estimated project cost and timeline
- Contractor license information (if applicable)
- Utility disconnect letters (for demolition projects)
- Incomplete applications may delay approval.

- Submit the Online Building Permit Application.

- The Building Inspector will review your application.
- Projects requiring Zoning Permits must also be submitted prior to approval.
- Once approved, your permit will be issued, and inspections will be scheduled as needed.
- Call the Building Inspector at (608) 444-0372 to have applications mailed or arrange to pick up applications at the City Hall at 450 South Main Street.
