Yard Waste

Yard Waste Pickup (Leaves, Branches, Brush, and Garden Waste)

The Richland Center Street Department will be collecting leaves, brush, branches, and garden waste. See the 2022 Brush-Yard Waste Calendar for the schedule. More details can be found by viewing the 2022 Brush-Yard Waste Details. The trucks will begin their trip through the City at 7:00 AM, so you must have your brush out prior to 7:00 AM on Monday.

Brush, twigs, leaves and garden waste are all that will be collected. Yard waste will not be collected in plastic bags – it must be placed in biodegradable bags or left in an open container. The container will be left at the curb after the contents are dumped into a truck. Bags can be purchased from the City Clerk / Treasurer’s Office located at 450 S. Main Street between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. You may take waste to the landfill anytime.

The brush is all chipped, so you are asked to place your brush with the butts out to the curb so that they can easily be separated from the pile and be fed into the chipper. Brush can be no larger than 6″ in diameter. The homeowner must dispose of limbs larger than the 6″ limit themselves. Butts larger than 6″ can be taken to the Landfill, but there is a fee to dispose of it there. Most people know someone that burns wood, which would be a less costly way of disposing larger tree trunks and limbs.

Christmas Trees will be picked up January 7, 14, 21, and 28th of 2013. Place trees at the curb side the night before pickup.

Grass clipping cannot be placed out to the curb for pickup and cannot be blown out into the street, as grass will plug up our storm sewers. If you don’t leave your grass clippings on your lawn, you may haul them to the City’s compost area, located in front of the Richland Center Landfill transfer station located off from County Hwy AA. This is an area that you can get to at all times. We ask that you empty your containers and take them with you or dispose of them in the containers provided.

The City does not collect the following material and they should not be placed at the curb. If the following material is left at the curb, you will receive a notice in the mail. If the material is not removed, it will be removed at your expense: lumber, rocks, concrete, soil, sod, metal, furniture.

The following two haulers serve the City:

  • Town & Country Sanitation 1-800-626-1915
  • Waste Management 1-877-969-2783
