The City of Richland Center is seeking a candidate for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Public Works (ADPW). As the Assistant DPW, you will oversee and participate in a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks across the City’s infrastructure, parks, facilities, and public spaces. This is a working supervisor position responsible for leading both the Streets Division and the Buildings & Grounds Division. The ideal candidate will be comfortable directing crews, managing workflows, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency—while also performing hands-on work alongside the team. Responsibilities include street, sidewalk, and stormwater maintenance; parks and forestry operations; facilities upkeep; cemetery support; equipment oversight; and seasonal operations such as snow removal and landscaping. Strong leadership, technical skill, and a willingness to perform physical labor in all weather conditions are essential.

Requirements: Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), with an associate degree or technical training in a relevant field strongly preferred. Candidates should bring experience in public works or related fields such as construction, street maintenance, utilities, landscaping, forestry, building maintenance, or equipment operation and repair. Prior supervisory or lead experience is required, along with a valid Wisconsin driver’s license. A Wisconsin Class B CDL without an air-brake restriction is preferred, or the ability to obtain one within six months. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is required or must be obtained within six months. The position requires availability beyond the normal workday for snow removal, emergency response, cemetery burials, and similar operational needs Successful candidates will be subject to a background check.
