The City of Richland Center is very excited that it has been awarded a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for the development of the “Pine River Trails”. The grant award is in the amount of $94,100 under the Recreational Trails Act (RTA) Program.
An all-access canoe/kayak landing as well as one all-access fishing pier was installed at the Old Mill Pond Park along the Pine River and an all-access canoe/kayak landing at Krouskop Park. Access to existing landings were improved by adding steps or a ramp and hand rails.
Primitive camping sites were created as well as electrical service for other camping sites in three different locations; Old Mill Pond Park, Krouskop Park and at Lions Park.
A shelter was constructed at the Old Mill Pond Park on W. Seminary Street by the Richland Center High School Class of 1968.
The Ocooch Mountain Bike/Hiking/Snow Shoeing trail was constructed on City property overlooking the southern portion of the City. Access is off of Peebles Drive where a sign was installed to show the trails.
The existing Pine River Bike Trail (bike/hiking/walking) was paved from Bohmann Drive to County Hwy O.
Signage was added along the different projects for education, fitness and directions.
The Grant required public participation and financial contributions that was very successful. Thank you to all who participated and the DNR for their contribution.
