As part of our Arbor Day celebration, we are promoting the MIDNR's Run for the Trees: Happy Little 5K.
This is a race that anyone and everyone can do. Participants can walk, run, skate, scooter, cycle, or use a mobility device to complete the 5K (3.1-mile) race at a location of their choosing between April 18 and 26, 2026, to encompass Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24).
No matter how you reach the finish line—you pick the pace and the place, anywhere outdoors! Check out the cool SWAG you get for signing up (T-shirt, finisher's medal, bib number, and a sticker), and post your accomplishment online with your cool SWAG afterward.
Results and photo submissions can be made the weekend before Earth Day and the weekend after Arbor Day for those who can't complete their 5K during the work week. Make sure to tag #RunForTheTrees, #BobRoss, and #HappyLittle5K. You can even dress in your best Bob Ross or "Happy Little Tree" costume for added enjoyment for all (posting and costumes are not required).
All proceeds support tree-planting and forest protection efforts—such as invasive plant and forest pest management and early detection surveys—in state parks and recreation areas, including locations affected by tree pests and diseases like emerald ash borer and oak wilt.
When you register, you will be asked to pick which state you want your proceeds to go to. Pick Wisconsin! Sign up at their link and run on your own, or run with us on April 22nd from the Community Center starting at 5:30 PM!

*More information on the Arbor Day event is coming soon! If you are interested in learning about natural landscaping, getting free seedlings, making pinecone birdhouses, and urban forestry—or if you want to check out books from the library and enjoy goodies at the Winter Market—we will have it all. The Market runs from noon to 5:00 PM, and the rest of the fun starts at 3:00 PM.
